Cheers! Meads for the Holidays

ENTERTAINING TIP
Mead is one of the few wines that tastes just as delicious warm, especially on chilly nights. Simply pour into a mug and microwave for 45 seconds. Or, for a large group, pour enough mead for several cups into a slow cooker and heat on a low setting.
As an alternative to holiday punches and port wines, consider mead, which is one of the oldest wines on record. Dating back to 9,000 B.C., it has recently made a comeback, popping up on fine-dining restaurant menus.

Essentially made by fermenting honey, water and beer yeast – and brewing with spices, fruits or other flavors for signature accents – this full-bodied, sweet wine pairs quite well with winter-holiday foods, especially grilled cuisine.

Here are three meads easily available online. Their affordable prices (not more than about $22 a bottle) mean
you can stock up for holiday gatherings.
