Serenity at a Small Cabin Near the Mountains

Gordon Gregory photographed this private cabin at dusk in the Gallatin Valley near Bozeman, Mont., showing Ross Peak in the Bridger Mountains rising behind it. The cabin has an expansive front porch where the owner has set up a table and chairs to enjoy outdoor dining on warm summer evenings, and it also has an outdoor shower in the back with wonderful views of the mountain range.

Gordon had to plan the twilight photo very carefully to create a warm, end-of-the-day feeling, so he timed it so the light inside the cabin gave off an inviting glow while the outside light was soft and subdued. The reflection on the water in the foreground adds to the ambiance.

The property is located on the East Gallatin River, where the owner enjoys fishing right from his front door.

The cabin was designed by Swaback Partners of Scottsdale, Ariz., and built by YellowstoneTraditions of Bozeman. It’s made of reclaimed timber from an old barn, so, even though the structure is only 10 years old, it looks as though it’s been there 100 years.
