Reader's Tip: Pine Sign

Our cabin area is like many cabin locales in that it’s a confusing arrangement of criss-crossing, unlabeled dirt roads that traverse through a wooded area, which makes it difficult for guests to find our place. A solution to this problem is to post a unique sign that can act as a landmark.

One of our neighbors built a pine tree sign that helps guide guests to their destination. The sign is made of wood and shaped like a pine tree, and each branch is carved with the family name of residents on the road. When property sells and a new family moves in, our neighbor updates the sign by carving a new branch with their name. Besides providing a landmark, this is a nice way to welcome new residents to the neighborhood.
