Some are feasible: Attach white duct tape to your black clothing to look like a skeleton, or cover yourself head-to-toe in silver duct tape to become the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz.
Others are downright wacky, like covering yourself in duct tape (sticky side out) and rolling around on a barbershop floor to achieve a “Wolfman” look.
One of our favorites is the “Campfire” – brown duct tape over your legs for logs; red, orange and yellow duct tape on your torso and head for flames; and a marshmallow on a stick to hold in your hand.
For procrastinators, there are even a handful of 30-second costume ideas that you can whip up in a flash (tape many pairs of scissors to your hands and you are – you guessed it – Edward Scissorhands). There are also riotous pranks, decorating tips for your Halloween party (“Scare Tactics”) and creative solutions for a trick-or-treat bag.
Even if you read the book just for the laughs, Halloween is bound to look different through your new duct-tape lenses.
The Duct Tape Guys (Jim Berg and Tim Nyberg) started a duct tape craze in 1994 with the publication of The Duct Tape Book. Not ones to be taken too seriously, Jim and Tim’s books feature healthy doses of “breathtakingly stupid” commentary. The Original Duct Tape Halloween Book even includes a disclaimer and warnings about the pain and hair loss caused by removing duct tape from bare skin.
