Easy Homemade Air Freshener

If your cottage is a little fragrant after the evening fish fry or the morning’s all-you-can-eat bacon extravaganza, here’s a quick and easy air-freshening trick from my sister Chrissy Bradley (she’s clever like that):
  1. Cut up some citrus rinds, apple peels or apple slices, and drop them into a small pot of water.
  2. Add 1–2 cinnamon sticks and several whole cloves.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
  4. Enjoy your homemade air freshener.
  5. Add water as needed to keep the whole works from reducing to a sticky sludge in the bottom of your pot (I speak from experience).
Bonus: During dry winter months, your air freshener doubles as a humidifier.

Critical safety note: Never leave your stove unattended when the burner is on.
