My Cabin: Preserving the Legacy

Over 37 years ago, my husband Tom’s parents found heaven on earth, and we still enjoy it to this day. It’s a beautiful piece of property with a view of Farm Island Lake (“our” lake) in Aitkin, Minn. The dirt road winding through the woods and over the creek still takes our breath away. Wildlife abounds, and so do the memories.

Our children grew up going to the cabin. Rarely was a weekend skipped. There were rollaway beds in the basement for the kids (and a lot of dogs) when the whole family got together on big weekends.
Tom’s mom called the place a lakehome, and she loved having her whole family gather there so she could cook her fabulous meals for us. After mom passed away and dad no longer had a desire to take care of the lakehome, my husband and I moved north so our seven grandchildren would be able to enjoy the cabin for years to come.

Eagles, deer, turkeys and songbirds visit us daily, and we couldn’t be happier. Life is good at the lake.
INHERITING THE LIFESTYLE – Tom Larson’s parents built this home on Farm Island Lake more than 37 years ago. When his mother passed away and his father lost his desire to care for the lakehome, Tom and his wife, D’Ette, moved north so they could keep the tradition alive for their seven grandchildren.
WEEKENDS AT THE LAKE – The Larsons enjoy spending time at the lakehome with their kids, grandkids and pets. They fish off the dock, watch wildlife and make lasting memories while living the cabin life.
