New Angle on Wall Mounts

Q: We are going to buy a new place that has a loft finished with knotty pine. The loft has angled walls and is beautiful. We have two deer shoulder mounts and this is the room for them! How can we hang them on the     angled walls?

A: Hmmm, we’ve never seen this done, so we took your question to some taxidermy specialists.

Bill and Shirley Brown of Papa Bears Northwoods Store (www.papabearsnorthwoods.com) said deer shoulder mounts are designed to be hung on a flat surface. To hang them on an angled wall, you would need to create a 45-degree triangular support that would provide the flat surface the mounts require. Of course, if the walls are very steep the support piece would have to be rather large to give sufficient head room for the shoulder mounts at the top.

This support would need to be custom made, so if you’re not handy, consider hiring a carpenter. The custom-made support could be finished in knotty pine to match the walls of the loft or left open to place greenery behind it.
