Open-Air Boathouse

This open-air boathouse greets arriving visitors to Indian Point Camp, a private home on a remote lake in New York’s Adirondacks. Made of post-and-beam construction, the boathouse shelters a custom electric cruising boat. Beyond the boathouse floats a barge covered in glass – a greenhouse. The owners grow their vegetables and flowers here to keep them from being consumed by deer.

The owner of Indian Point Camp originally sketched the home on a paper napkin, then created a small-scale model of the place to insure proper placement of windows, etc. The home was then carefully constructed on the property to not harm the many 200-year-old trees on the site.

As seen in “Adirondack Home,” the newest book by rustic design expert Ralph Kylloe. Gibbs Smith, Publisher, www.gibbs-smith.com, hardcover, 248 pages, $60.
